STAGING INQUIRIES

Staging is an unpaid internship when a professional or aspiring cook or baker works briefly, for free (or to gain a position), in another Kitchen to learn and be exposed to new techniques and cuisines. The term originates from the French word ‘stagiaire’ meaning trainee, apprentice or intern. Chimacum Valley Grainery intermittently accepts staging requests from professional bakers interested in learning more about wholesome grain stonemilling, woodfired baking, floor malting and brewing.

Hello and thank you for your interest in visiting our farm, brewery, mill, and woodfired bake house!

We are a small, diverse team of passionate people who operate a dynamic village-scale organic grain operation on a farm in the Chimacum Valley. We love to host curious and committed learners— to make new connections, to exchange insights and to share what we've learned about the grains we can source, grow and process in our region and our back yard.

Throughout the year, depending on the intensity of the season and the schedule of the crew, we host folks for staging. This means joining our crew to learn to help out for a day or two and may include assisting with cleaning grain, baking, packaging, milling and more.

Interested?

As a way to get to know folks better, we've compiled a short list of questions to learn where you're coming from, your industry experience and what you're most interested in focusing on during your stay.

Please respond to these question and email your inquiry over to bakery@chimacumgrain.com and we will get back to you when we dust off and get over to the computer:

  1. Who are you? Tell us about yourself, including your industry experience: What industry do you currently work in?  How many years have you been doing it? Other industry specific training and education?

  2. What area of our operation are you most interested in staging? Have you done this before?

    • Stonemill

    • Woodfired Bakery

    • Brewing & Floor Malting

  3. Why here? What makes you interested in our project out here on the Peninsula?

  4. What else should we know? Things we can learn from you? Special considerations?

Submit these responses to bakery@chimacumgrain.com and we will review and respond when we can. Submitting an inquiry does not mean it will happen, but the crew loves hearing from you and we hope it works
