BAKING

It just makes sense! Growing and milling our own organic grain has led very naturally to making our own bread and other baked goods. There is something about bread that conjures community in the warmest, most delicious way. So we decided to develop a woodfired bakery on the farm in order to make the connection between land and loaf, grain and ground; and so our neighbors could be nourished by the valley they are a part of.

The bakery is built into a post and beam wood pavilion on the home farm, overlooking the green, grassy fields of the Chimacum Valley where the seasonal elements rotate the land from summer cow pasture to winter swan habitat. Chimacum Ridge rises in forests of evergreen and big leaf maple to the east. Just a mile up the road are our grain fields, level land with rich soils and views of the Olympic Mountains to make a farmer sigh. The wheat does not have to wander far to find a hearth. The same small set of folks are growing, milling and baking it. It's a remarkably rare continuity we have going on, resulting in fresh, nourishing food for our neighborhood.

The bakery launched in early 2023 and offers a weekly Bread Share membership and supplies loaves to local markets and restaurants.
